2007 Colorado Trip

Sunday, September 30

The wind blew itself out overnight and today dawned clear and quiet. Since the first part of today's route was straight and high plateau, Carol drove the first two hours. Sitting in the navigator seat and being able to look around while working on the computer was quite a treat.

One of the amazing areas of today was the section with the dinosaur characters along the road in a tourist "park" that went out of business. Huge petrified logs lined the fence over about a length of 3 miles on the south side of the highway. There was a dirt road that went along the fence and seemed to lead around the perimeter of the park. The petrified logs were huge and looked like they had to be mature trees. We came to a turnoff that led to a building that must have been the main entrance for the park. Gates were locked and there didn't seem to be any way to get inside the park.

All too soon, it was my turn to drive again and the fun was over. We arrived in Williams in the late afternoon. We got the paper that provided the WIFI login information this time, so we had Internet access. After checking the weather, we decided it wasn't worth the effort to drive to the Grand Canyon for sunset. It would have been very tight getting there, and the weather didn't seem that promising. Instead, we kicked back and relaxed in the motorhome.
