2008 Rocky Mountains Trip

Yesterday ended and today began the same way: unsuccessful attempts to log in to the servers at work. We had hoped to extend our vacation an extra week by returning to the Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone where I could work from the motorhome during the day. Then, we could continue to see sections of the park after I was done working. This all hinged on being able to VPN in to the work servers. Although I had no trouble accessing the Internet on my new laptop or my work laptop, I couldn't get VPN to work on my work laptop. I even tried to VPN in from the campground office where the signal would be strongest. I don't know what the problem is, but I simply can't get into the work servers from here. That may cause some significant schedule changes...

After giving up on the VPN fiasco, we moved to Fishing Bridge RV Park. This is an RV park inside Yellowstone that has full hookups. It was a little painful to give up our plan to camp at Norris and enjoy all the wildlife in the meadow right outside the campground, but it just didn't seem feasible with the small campsites and the fact that the campground had been full. The chances of us even getting a campsite that was big enough was very remote, and even smaller in the "A" Loop where we had been previously. Fishing Bridge RV Park is basically a parking lot between rows of pine trees. It's huge, but all you see are other motorhomes and trees. It meets our needs because it puts us pretty much in the center of the park and will cut down on driving, but the esthetics leave much to be desired.

Once we got set up, we just relaxed the remainder of the afternoon. It took two hours to drive from West Yellowstone, and I was ready for a break.

The high point of the day was watching "The Final Season." It's a movie about Norway, Iowa, and the amazing baseball tradition they had. The story centers on the last year of the high school before it would be merged with other schools in the area. The school board forces out the coach that had won 12 state championships and then replaces him with someone they gave no chance of success. Instead, the new, young coach leads the team to the 20th and last state championship. It was an amazing movie.

We headed off to bed serenaded by the raindrops on the motorhome roof.
