2009 Zion Trip

Monday, November 9

All good trips have to come to an end, and this was our final of the trip. We got a fairly early start and reached Las Vegas about noon. We stopped for lunch and managed to leave town without a stop at Bass Pro this time. We even got home before dark. We made very good time going downhill all the way to San Diego. It was one time when we are really happy for a boring drive without any excitement.

Our Zion trip was a wonderful contrast to the New England trip. It was warm and sunny every day, and we moved at a much more relaxed pace. Where New England was driving all day to seek out new spots to photograph, Zion was selecting familiar places and short drives to all the destinations. We only photographed for half of most days and relaxed the other half. We made all our own meals and enjoyed the familiar comforts of our motorhome. The fall color was a little disappointing, but we managed a couple good days on the canyon floor shooting the cottonwoods. The big surprise was the four sightings of bighorn sheep during the week and the flock of turkeys we saw near Weeping Rock. It was a good trip.
