2011 Oregon Trip

Sunday, July 17

We visited the gardens at Shore Acres State Park to start the day. The estate was originally owned by Louis J. Simpson, who was a lumber baron. The combination of a fire destroying his mansion and losses during the depression led to Simpson selling the estate to the state of Oregon. The gardens were relatively small, but they are perched on the cliffs overlooking the ocean. One section of the garden included the most recent all-American roses. Now, we want to replace a bunch of our older roses. We especially liked the Dick Clark. It's like Double Delight but with ruffled edges.

After visiting Shore Acres, we returned to camp and packed up for our drive to Roseburg. We weren't sure what to expect at the Twin Rivers Vacation Park.Google Earth View It was a pleasant surprise. It's a small private campground along the valley of the Umpqua River. It's like a park. In this area, all they have to do to have a lawn is to mow. The campground is large lawns, tall, established trees, and flowers scattered around the park. All the campsites are shaded. It isn't quite as nice as Cannon Beach RV, but it's close.
