I made it to Friday. After wrapping up another week at work, it was time to begin preparations to drive home tomorrow. Last night, we picked up all the stuff we stored at Matt and Jackie's. Now, we have to find room for it in the Explorer or motorhome for the ride home.
After work, we drove in to Ashland to photograph Victorian Houses. Ashland is a unique little town. It's built on the side of a mountain that extends down to the river valley below. Lithia Creek flows down from the mountain and cascades right through the center of town. Lithia Park surrounds the creek on both sides and provides a beautiful place to walk and picnic. Ashland is a mixture of the charm of an artistic community with its famous Shakespeare festival and the hippy subculture. Scattered around town are Victorian houses that have been restored from the early 1900's. Most have amazing landscaping and are now bed and breakfasts. With all the rain in the winter and the warm summers, Ashland is a paradise for trees and bushes. Everything is green. In contrast, the mountain slopes east of Ashland are a consistent brown as the grasses have succumbed to the summer heat.
Carol had picked up a couple of maps earlier in the day on her shopping foray into town. She provided the directions, and we drove around looking for the old houses. After checking out the houses south of Main Street, we parked on a street we had seen earlier in the trip and walked around the hills north of Main Street. We saw some of the best of the houses on Main Street between Laurel and Church Street. Then we walked up Granite Street. The houses on Granite Street were newer homes, but they still kept the Victorian style. We ran into deer in each section we visited. They were browsing their way through the lawns and seemed to have little fear of humans.

After a couple hours, we returned to camp and finished getting ready to leave tomorrow.
