Half Moon Bay

It's a good thing we got an early start today, because we had a lot to do. We bought the perishables for the rest of the trip at a nearby Safeway and then got the Explorer washed. All those hours spent washing and waxing the Explorer before the trip were wiped out when it rained all the way from Tulare to Pleasant Hill. Our poor Explorer looked like it had been driven through a farmer's field. While we were parking it in San Francisco, we didn't mind that it would be a lesser target for thieves, but we wanted it clean for the rest of the trip.

After about six trips to the motorhome, we finally moved out of the motel and back into our rolling home-away-from-home. Now, we could put everything "in its place" and get back to our normal routine. We are definitely more comfortable living in the motorhome than staying in a motel.

We only had to drive about 60 miles to Half Moon Bay State Park, our first stop along the California Coast. The campground is just above the beach and every campsite has some kind of view of the ocean. Our campsite is completely open on all sides, so our solar system should be able to meet all our electrical needs. We'll see how that goes tomorrow. The down side of the lack of trees was that nothing blocked the wind off the ocean. And it was windy!

We ventured out in the late afternoon to explore the area. We checked out downtown Half Moon Bay and then drove up the coast as far as Pacifica. On the way back, we stopped at Pillar Point and walked out to the end of the peninsula. This is a very popular area for families walking their dogs.

We returned to camp in time to photograph the sunset from our campsite. We had high expectations for the sunset, but the clouds blew inland just before sunset. The western sky was pretty flat by the time the sun dropped below the horizon.
