2014 Washington Trip

Tuesday, August 12

The day started with overcast skies and sprinkles. It was time to leave Mt. Rainier. We got an early start and were headed down the mountain by 8:30. We passed our favorite Van Cleve Ford in Morton. We hadn't planned to visit them, but they certainly saved us.

It was a nice cool morning and there was very little traffic. We arrived at the Sandy Riverfront RV Park at 12:10, so we could move right in. Since we were back in the world of cell service and Internet, we got caught up on emails and some of the latest news. Then, we got cleaned up and drove to the Woodburn Premium Outlets. Carol had a couple of things to return, and I wanted another long-sleeve Columbia hiking shirt. The mosquitoes at Mt. Rainier taught me an important lesson about the need for long sleeves. It has been decades since I was that completely chewed up by mosquitoes. The very thought of them makes me start itching again.

After Woodburn, we continued south to Salem to have dinner with Nancy and Kelsey. Nancy worked as shop manager for Carol when she and her ex-husband owned the pottery business in La Mesa. Kelsey is Nancy's daughter who is working on her Master's Degree in education. We had a very pleasant 2 1/2-hour dinner that enabled Carol to catch up on the latest news in their family. After hearing Nancy's travel stories, Carol may want to go to Ireland.

By the time we returned to the campground, we were wiped out. It was an early night to bed. The gentle rain on the roof made for a great night's sleep.
