Tuesday, August 19

After breakfast at the Best Western, we got an early start for our final day. We fueled up just south of Tulare, returned to Highway 99, listened to the conclusion of our book on CD, and cruised home. We had leftover KFC chicken for lunch. One of the advantages of traveling in the motorhome is that we can pull over in a rest area, start the generator, turn on the A/C, warm our food in the microwave, and have a good lunch. KFC chicken and cole slaw was a real treat.

We beat the traffic in San Diego and got home about 3:30. Then, we started the worst part of traveling: unpacking and cleaning up. It will take a couple of days to get all the laundry done and everything cleaned up so we can take the motorhome back to storage.

Trip Favorites

Best Day of the Trip: July 22nd when we visited the Chihuly Museum and Pike Place Market was amazing. I know it may be heresy that it was a day in the city, but it was by far our favorite day.

Favorite Image of the Trip: For Carol it was the image of the fawns at Hurricane Ridge. My favorite image was from a Reflection Lake with the fog rolling in.

Most Frustrating Moments: This was a very easy one for me. It had to be the hours we spent trying to fix the Explorer tailgate hinge. Carol picked all the mosquitoes while hiking in Mt. Rainier.

Favorite Wildlife: The fawns at Hurricane Ridge were Carol's favorites. My favorite wildlife was the ptarmigan that became my "pal" at Paradise.

Favorite Mt. Rainier National Park Image: For Carol it was Sunbeam Falls. My favorite was Reflection Lake with the fog.

Favorite Olympic National Park Image: Carol's choice was the fawns at Hurricane Ridge. My favorite was the sunset at Second Beach.

Favorite Seattle Image: Carol's favorite was the Seattle skyline from Alki Point. My favorite was the sunset image at Kerry Park.

Favorite Waterfall: Sunbeam Falls in Mt. Rainier edged out Myrtle Falls.

Best Campsite: Lake Pleasant RV Park won this category easily. We had outstanding campsites on this trip, but none of them could touch Lake Pleasant. Durango RV in Redding finished second.

Cutest: The fawns at Hurricane Ridge won this category easily.

Saddest: The untimely death of Darren de Mouse was very sad. Although trying to shoo him out of the motorhome was #2 on the frustrating moments list, it was still very sad that he didn't take advantage of a second chance and live a long and happy life.
