2016 New Mexico & Utah Trip

Monday, September 12

After the 108-degree heat in Needles yesterday, a nice, cool morning was a great change. Beautiful photographer's clouds floated over the high plateaus as we continued east across Arizona. Except for the 30 MPH wind gusts, it was an easy drive to Gallup, NM. Gallup marked the end of our travels on the Interstate as we turned north toward Shiprock. The highway followed a valley before climbing to a plateau and provided close-up views of two extinct volcanoes.

We arrived in Farmington and were all set up in our campsite at Mom and Pop's RV Park by 4:30. We've been looking forward to seeing Mike and Ginny who took over the campground shortly before we arrived last year. They watched out for us last year and called us "The Kids." Today, they surprised us by saying they were both retired and were going to close the campground on December 31st. They want to be the travelers instead of the ones serving the travelers. Good for them!
