2017 Summer Trip

Thursday, June 18

Today was our longest driving day of the trip. It took us 10.5 hours to drive the 465 miles from home to Zion West RV Park, just north of St. George. I'm still getting used to a completely new routine required to connect Ruby (our new Explorer) for towing, but everything went smoothly and we left at 8:30. We had blue skies, cool weather, and we were cruisin'...until we reached San Bernadino. There was a significant accident on I-15, and it took over an hour to drive ten miles. That set us back significantly and put us in rush hour traffic in Las Vegas.

The big excitement of the day was the wind around Las Vegas. We hit a brief dust storm just west of Las Vegas, and then we were buffeted by the wind for the next hour. Getting blown all over the road wasn't fun. By the time we reached Mesquite, we were driving under sunny, blue skies. From there it was an easy drive to the campground.
