Jackson

I woke up at 4:45 and checked the sky, but as predicted, we were totally socked in. There was no reason to get up early.

We slept in, made breakfast, and then drove to Jackson. Our first stop was the National Museum of Wildlife. Outside the museum were life-sized sculptures of the wildlife commonly found around Jackson, Wyoming. They were magnificent. In addition to the regular displays in the museum, a special exhibit of the photographs of Joel Sartore opened yesterday. All his wildlife shots were done in a studio, and they were amazing. All the backgrounds were either bright white or black, so the wildlife took center stage and had no competition for the attention of the viewer.

We returned to Bubba's for lunch in Jackson. As always, it was delicious.

Then, we got down to serious business. Bella and Lilly wanted to pick out their souvenirs, and I wanted to look for t-shirts. We walked around the central square in Jackson in search of the perfect souvenirs. I found a t-shirt, but Carol didn't find anything she liked. Lilly found a stuffed toy to add to her extensive collection, but Bella decided she wanted something from the gift shop in Colter Bay.

We returned to camp, ate dinner, and then joined Shawn's family to watch "Stand By Me." After the movie, Carol and I started getting things packed up to leave tomorrow. We were supposed to leave on Tuesday, but snow is predicted, and we have to cross a mountain pass south of Dubois on our way to Casper. It's supposed to rain all day here tomorrow, so we decided we might as well leave early and try to beat the snow to Togwotee Pass. I'd rather drive over the pass in rain tomorrow than snow on Tuesday.
