Zion

We only had 90 miles to drive today, so we started the process of getting the motorhome cleaned up. We got to Zion River RV Resort about 1:00, which is one of the nicest campgrounds we go to. It was 103 when we arrived. It dropped al the way to 94 when we got set up in the shade of a large tree, but it was still hot. Getting the power plugged in and the A/C on was our first priority.

I planned for us to stay outside Zion for two days to break up the long drive and to give us a chance to photograph the bighorn sheep in Zion. I never dreamed that we would see so many bighorn on the trip. Now, the bighorn at Zion weren't such a novelty. We drove the 15 miles into Zion at 5:30 to try to catch the bighorn feeding in the canyons above the tunnel. We drove through our "never miss" locations without seeing a single bighorn. Finally, as we drove around a curve, we saw a bighornjam ahead. There was a huge herd of bighorn feeding just below the highway. Like so many other times on the trip, drivers stopped right in the middle of the highway to take the pictures. There was a pullout right beside them, but they had to stop in the middle of the road. This time that worked for us, because we had the pullout to ourselves to unload our gear and start shooting the bighorn. It was a good year for lambs here, too, but they looked to be at least a month older than the ones we saw at Badlands. They were significantly bigger.

By the time we returned to main canyon, the Visitor Center was closed, so we just drove back to camp.
