Hurricane Ridge

We got up at 4:45 so we could shoot moonset at sunrise at Hurricane RidgeGoogle Earth Image. It was very hard getting up in the pitch dark, but Hurricane Ridge is a great sunrise shot. But today was not going to be one of those great sunrises. In fact, clouds filled the sky in the east and blocked the sun. Clouds also filled the sky over Mt. Olympus in the west so we never saw the moon. It was a sunrise failure. We didn't shoot a single sunrise image.

As we were about ready to leave, we saw a group of marmots playing in the parking lot. Marmots are naturally curious and are generally friendly, even in the back country. This group of three marmots kept posing for us in between short forays into the meadow to feed. It looked like it may have been a mother with two young born a year ago. The two younger marmots had long, thick, blondish fur while the mother had more of a camouflage pattern of blonde and dark fur.

Sol Duc Falls

We drove back down the mountain to our campsite and had breakfast. We relaxed around camp until mid-afternoon when we drove to Sol Duc FallsGoogle Earth Image. We lucked out and even got a pretty good parking place; especially for a Saturday. We hiked the 0.8 miles to the falls and shot the falls from every angle imaginable. It was one of the few times we've had sunshine on this part of the trip.

We even got back to camp early enough to have dinner and do two loads of laundry. The first ten days with temperatures in the 90's took a toll on our supply of clean clothes.
