Pikes Place Market

Pikes Place Market is one place every tourist visits in Seattle. Since we missed our chance the day we toured the Chihully glass museum, we decided to go this morning. Pikes Place Market is a collection of shops just up the hill from the waterfront. There are restaurants, fish markets, fruits and vegetable stands, souvenir shops, and craft shops. Pikes Market is most famous for its fish market where they throw the fish from the ice coolers out front to the guys in the back that do the filleting and packaging. Pikes Place Market is also where Starbucks started. People were lined up for a block to buy coffee in the original Starbucks.

Our original plan was to drive back to camp and then have dinner at Anthony's on Pier 66 for dinner. Since Anthony's was just down the hill from Pikes Place Market, we decided to eat lunch there and skip the extra trip back downtown in all the crazy traffic tonight. The restaurant was relatively empty so the service was good and the food arrived shortly after we ordered. The food was very good; especially the calamari appetizer. It was the best we've had in a very long time.

After our leisurely lunch, we drove back to camp and "vegged out" for the afternoon. Since it was our last night here, we made one more trip back to Dairy Queen for our evening snack.

We have complained about our traffic in San Diego, but Seattle is MUCH worse. San Diegio has heavy traffic during rush hour, but we've had heavy, stop-and-go traffic in Seattle any time we drive the I-5 or I-405. It's crazy. At 10:00 in the morning, they are still metering traffic at the entrance ramps, and the freeways are full. After the traffic in Portland and Seattle, I'm not going to complain about San Diego traffic for awhile.
