Day Cancelled

Today was cancelled due to the threat of rain. We lucked out yesterday that the forecast for rain was wrong, but today we had no such luck. The sky was completely filled with clouds when we woke up, and we couldn't take any chances of rain since the roads in Carrizo are all clay that turns into a quagmire.

We needed another day shooting in Carrizo. We didn't have a chance to do any photographing on the west side the Carrizo Plain or up in the Caliente Range. On the other hand, we were lucky to get such a good day shooting yesterday. This is the challenge of only having a couple of days to shoot in an area. One day of bad weather can have a huge affect.

We ventured out to get lunch at Tina's Cafe, the only remaining business in Maricopa besides our motel and a Shell station. It turns out that the owner's name was Tima, but the sign painter misspelled it and it was never changed. We really wanted to support this very nice lady's restaurant, but the food was terrible. There was lots of food (like oil field worker quantities), but we just couldn't eat it. We felt badly.

The prescription to fix our disappointment from lunch was a final dinner at Roots. Our amazing rib dinner was a great way to end our time at the Carizzo Plain. We only visit here on years with a superbloom, so we never know when we'll be back. We were here in 2017 for the superbloom, but it was over 10 years between the previous superblooms. It's too bad our favorite BBQ places are in Big Pine and Taft. Both are tiny towns and at least 3 hours away. I doubt that Grubhub has reached Big Pine or Taft...
