Arch Rock

We returned to our favorite areas from yesterday to shoot them in better light this morning. Our first stop was the overview near Arch Rock. Instead of hazy skies and backlit formations, we had blue skies and better lighting. I don't think they have morning golden light along the Oregon Coast. The fog hangs on long after sunrise to wipe out that possibility. But we are enjoying seeing sunshine every day.

After shooting from the overlook, we drove over to the Arch Rock parking area to shoot the other viewpoints.

Natural Bridges

We returned to Natural Bridges to shoot the two arches front-lit. It was a much better shot today. It's easier to see both natural bridges in morning light.

Natural Bridges

While we were there, a guy from New York in his early 20's told us he wanted to go down and take an image of himself standing on the natural bridge. He showed us a picture on his phone that he had seen, and he wanted to duplicate it. He admitted it was a stupid thing to do, but he wanted to "live large." I guess last night and today shows the power of social media. Here is a guy that lives in New York that sees an image from an obscure location on the Oregon Coast. He adds it to his "To Do" list even though it's 2,000 miles away. Even though it's dangerous and could be risking his life, he wants to duplicate the picture he saw.

Meyer Beach

We stopped at the south end of Meyer Beach today to get the morning sun on the sea stacks. We climbed through some sand dunes to reach the beach, and got some good images of the dune grasses as a foreground to the beach. When we reached the beach, we felt we were in a sand blaster. The winds were blowing in our face about 17 MPH. In some areas, it was difficult to hold the camera steady to take the pictures. The only entertainment we had was watching the gulls line up face-into-the-wind at the surf line. As the wind changed direction, they shifted as one long string of birds. When we returned to the motorhome, one of the first things we did was wash all the sand and grit off of us.

We returned to camp for lunch and relaxed through the afternoon as we waited for the good evening light.

South Harris Beach

The sun was very hazy as we looked west, so we moved to South Harris Beach for golden light tonight. It was a very good choice. It was two hours after low tide, and the growing waves were crashing against the rocks just off-shore. The warm light on the rocks and waves made the scene.

North Harris Beach

When the sun dropped below the ridge, we drove over to North Harris Beach. We got there just as the sun was setting. I grabbed my camera and ran down to the beach just in time to catch the sun sitting on top of a rock. I like the 3 people sitting on the rocks watching the sunset. They had the perfect vantage point. In 4 minutes, the sun was gone. We cut that one way too close.
