What a Great Day!
Today was a great day. It was like a "normal" vacation day. I got up at 5:00 expecting another dreary morning. But when I checked outside, the moon had found a sliver of an opening as it was setting over the mountains. Today is moonset at sunrise, so I had the shot all planned. I hustled down to the lake below our campsite, but just as I was ready to start shooting, the moon disappeared below the clouds. I started looking around the lake for other things to shoot. But just as quickly as the moon disappeared behind the clouds, it dropped below them and hung just above the mountain. The colors of the "blue light hour" seemed to be accentuated. It was a challenge to get the right exposure on the moon as well as the surrounding dark trees and mountain, but spot metering and HDR made it work. There was very brief sunrise color at the other end of the lake, but the sun hid behind a mountain almost as soon as it touched the horizon.

I was out shooting for about an hour, and it didn't rain or even drizzle! In fact, there were areas of blue sky above the lake. I downloaded my images and went back to bed. I'm no longer a 6:00 a.m. kind of guy.
The weather held, and we drove back to Sahalie and Koosah Falls to retake the shots we did in the rain on Monday. Some of the mud holes had dried a bit, and the sun poked through the skies on-and-off throughout the afternoon. We enjoyed casually photographing and talking to other people at the overlooks. Most of the people were retired like us and from somewhere in the West. Carol graciously offered to take pictures of couples and families who were struggling to get a group picture. It was like a normal vacation day for us, which was a nice change.

To enhance our great day, Carol made shrimp scampi for dinner. It was delicious and prepared us for a night of developing images.
