Trillium Lake
Today we left the life of luxury in Bend/Sisters Garden RV Resort and traded it for rustic camping at Trillium Lake where we have no hookups. BUT, it's 72 degrees and sunny here. AND, Trillium Lake is one of the most amazing sunrise locations in the Pacific Northwest.
Checkout wasn't until noon today from Bend/Sisters, so we had a leisurely morning. We cleaned everything up, unhooked from all our utilities, and then drove to Sisters to do some shopping. It was a gorgeous morning and pleasantly warm. When we returned to camp, we had just enough time to do some final cleaning, hook up the Explorer, and leave at 11:58.
The drive from Sisters to Trillium Lake is only a little over 100 miles, but we drove through high dessert, basaltic tablelands with rivers flowing through 300 foot fissures in the basalt, areas famous for their hot springs, crossed two forested passes, and finally dropped into the basin around Trillium Lake. It was a very scenic drive and had the most diversity of any drive during our trip.
We have a nice big campsite with easy access to Trillium Lake. Things are looking very promising for a good sunrise tomorrow morning.
