Ecola State Beach

Today felt like the first day of summer. We had blue skies all day, and it was 83 degrees by early afternoon. It was a wonderful change!

We relaxed around camp in the morning, and then drove to Hug Point to shoot the "giant" 5' waterfall. It's kind of a joke, but we always shoot it while we're in the area. Hug Point is a beautiful area, especially at the south end of the beach. At low tide, the beach stretches forever, and we've gotten good reflection pictures as the tide comes back in. Most of this trip, the parking area has been full when we've driven by.

Our second stop was Silver Point to shoot Cannon Beach from the south. Pine trees framed the shot looking down the beach to Haystack rock.

Our sunset spot for tonight was Ecola State Park. The thin clouds at the horizon prevented a good sunset, but there were a few cirrus clouds stretching across the sky that added color after the sun set. We hung around and enjoyed the evening as the moon continued to move into the scene, but there was too much contrast (even with HDR) to photograph the moon with the blue-light scene of the beach.
