Natural Bridges

We started our day with Natural Bridges, which is our favorite viewpoint along the coast. From the viewpoint next to the road, we looked down on a small cove with a ridge running from one side of the cove to the other. When the waves rolled up the cove, they flowed through two natural bridges in the ridge. The entire area is lush green understory with towering trees. One of the big draws to Natural Bridges is hiking down a trail that allows you (if you're crazy enough) to cross the ridge over the two natural bridges to the other side. We met a guy last time that had seen a video of someone crossing the natural bridges and had driven all the way from New York to do it. But the trail across the bridges is very narrow, and the fall is 300 feet to the rocks below. At least two people have fallen to their deaths here in the last two years. We'll stick to photographing the area from the viewpoint.

Sunset at Meyers Beach

From Natural Bridges, we continued south to Meyers Beach. What sets the northern part of Meyers Beach apart is the extremely gentle slope of the beach at low tide. At sunset, the beach glows as the setting sun reflects off the wet sand that seems to stretch forever to the west. Tonight, the reflections in the sand made a "duddy" sunset into a sunset worth shooting.

The area below the main parking area for the northern part of Meyers Beach is a great place to explore among the sea stacks; especially as a high tide rolls in.
