Today was all about driving. The goal was to make Flagstaff before dark. As it turned out, we stopped in Williams with the thought of making a quick trip to the Grand Canyon for sunset if it looked promising. We checked in to the Grand Canyon Railroad RV Park and were assured we would get Internet access. We got everything set up without incident, and I started up my laptop, only to discover that I didn't have the necessary user name and password to get in. So much for checking the Web cam at Yavapai Point to see if the drive was worth the time.
When we checked the time again, the sky to the north was looking more and more promising, but the opportunity had really passed us by. It would be a mad dash to reach the Canyon for sunset, and we would only have a few minutes before it went down. In the end, we walked into town and checked out the shops on Route 66. We had dinner at our favorite Pine Country Inn. They had remodeled, and it was now nearly 3 times as big as last time. Unfortunately, with the increase in size came a decrease in food quality. It was very forgettable.
The only memorable part of the drive was that we saw a bighorn sheep right along the road near Ash Fork.
