Our spring Yosemite trip had a very unusual beginning. It actually started with a wonderful Mother's Day brunch with Kim and Jeff at George's Modern Cuisine in La Jolla. The food was outstanding, and how can you beat the view of La Jolla Cove? We hadn't seen Jeff & Kim for a couple months, so we had lots of catching up to do.
After brunch, we returned home to finish packing. Gene was already done, so he caught a few z's while Carol wrapped up her packing. By 4:30, we were on the road heading for Yosemite. We made great time through Los Angeles and were enjoying The Confession by John Grisham. It looked like we would arrive earlier than expected at our favorite Best Western in Tulare-----------------------------------------------------------until we hit traffic on The Grapevine. After an hour at 7 MPH, we finally reached the accident. A car had caught fire and burned to the ground. When the traffic finally cleared and we reached Arvin, we needed a break. We fueled up the motorhome (OUCH!!!!!) and grabbed some dinner before returning to I-5. At midnight, we reached our Best Western. It was a very long day!
