Back to Bisti
Carol and I wanted another chance to photograph the Egg Factory, so we returned to Bisiti in the late afternoon today. We stopped by the Czech famiy and talked to them about their morning hike into the badlands. They hiked 17 km, which I think is over 11 miles.
As usual, we couldn't hike past Hoodoos 3 without stopping to photograph our favorites. We zeroed in on one formation near where we shot the eclipse last year. I shot sea serpents with just their heads and the top of their backs above the waves, and Carol shot geese flying. The interesting thing is that we were shooting the same formation.
The Egg Factory was our next destination. The sun was starting to drop, so the eggs created wonderful shadows to add depth to the images. It was difficult to keep our shadows out of each others photos, but I think we got some good shots there.
We decided to get to one more area before heading back. We continued up the side canyon to the Garden Bonnet and the Perched Log. We had hoped to photograph the petrified wood in the next wash over, but the sun dropped below the ridge and then behind a layer of clouds.

We returned to the Egg Factory hoping the high clouds would light after sunset, but that didn't happen. We had no problem finding our way back to the Explorer and arrived at almost the exact same time I did last night. This time we had to break out the headlamps because of the cloud cover. We were glad to get back to the Explorer, even if we only hiked 5 miles. We discovered we have matching blisters on our left feet. I think we'll be ready for a day off tomorrow.
