Boulder Mountain
Our big excursion of the day was a drive up Boulder Mountain to check for fall color. The top of Boulder Mountain is a mixture of aspen groves that stretches for miles interspersed with sprawling meadows. At peak color, it is stunning. Today, it was nothing but aspen skeletons. The leaves were long gone. The overcast skies made even the views down to Lower Brown Reservoir unremarkable.
We returned to Capitol Reef just in time for Golden Hour. There was enough of a gap between the horizon and the clouds to allow for a few minutes of incredibly-warm light just before sunset. We managed to shoot Mummy Cliffs and The Castle before the light was gone.
