Heading Home
We've had more than enough of the smoky skies, and we are ready to get home.
It took us an hour to get out of Portland and down to Interstate 5, but it was smooth sailing the rest of the way to Grants Pass. We crossed three significant passes but didn't have any issues. Grants Pass, in southern Oregon, has had four fires in the mountains to the west for the last month. The fires are contained and the firefighters are allowing the central areas of the fires to burn as long as they don't threaten any new areas. The guy at the gas station said they probably won't get any relief from the smoke until they have some major rain storms. And that could be weeks away. Yuck!
We camped along the Rogue River at River Park RV just outside Grants Pass. It is a homey, little campground with very narrow roads and campsites almost on top of each other. It was all shaded, which was important because it was in the low 90's while we were there. It was fine for one night, but I don't think I would want to camp there for an extended period.
