2002 Canada Trip

Saturday, September 7

Remember that starry night on Friday? We were awakened by the steady rain on our trailer at 7:00. It had now rained and/or snowed every day of our trip except the half day drive from San Diego across the desert to Mesquite.

After breakfast, we set out for Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Although it was raining all the way to Lake Louise (the town), Carol was convinced we should still drive up to the lake. If it was raining up there, we would go to the Chateau Lake Louise Gift Shop or just sit in the car and listen to our book on tape. She figured eventually it had to stop raining. I thought it was a crazy idea, but I had no better suggestion for the day.

When we arrived at Lake Louise, the rain stopped and the sun started breaking through the clouds. Although the mountains surrounding the lake were never clear of clouds, the lake and the hotel were in sunshine. It turned into a beautiful morning at Lake Louise. We walked on the shore trail to get a better vantage point for photographing the hotel. Eighty percent of the tourists had

After Lake Louise, we thought we would try our luck at finding sunshine at Moraine Lake. Our luck ended before we reached Moraine Lake. It was overcast and gray. While we were there, it started raining, and we had to hustle down from the Rockpile. We stowed our equipment and headed off to the gift shop. We bought the essentials: T-shirts and bear bells.

From Moraine Lake, it was back to camp and an early spaghetti dinner. It seemed strange to be eating dinner before 10:00. Maybe, we could start a new trend.
