2008 Rocky Mountains Trip

Saturday, September 27

We decided to return to Yellowstone for another chance to photograph the Old Faithful geyser area. The weather cooperated but the timing of the eruptions didn't. We missed the early eruptions in the morning and would have a very long wait until the next series of eruptions. The two exceptions were Daisy Geyser and Old Faithful. On previous trips, we had lucked out and arrived just in time to photograph a large number of geysers in a relatively short time. In fact, over the previous two trips, we had photographed all the major geysers except Grand Geyser. The odds evened out today. We arrived at Daisy in time to photograph the entire eruption and ended the morning at the Old Faithful geyser.

We stopped at Oxbow Bend to photograph the golden light of the afternoon, but we missed the action of previous days with moose and grizzlies. The best we could do today was a muskrat and a few ducks.

We shot sunset at Jackson Lake, but there was no color at all. We've had some amazing photographic opportunities on this trip, but today wasn't one of them.
