We woke up to blue skies and sunshine today. What a change! Then I remembered that it was a travel day. We've waited 8 days for sunshine, and it comes on the day we're supposed to drive all day.
We took the scenic route and toured
the White Mountains in New Hampshire on the way to Skowheagan,
our destination for tonight. We saw the best color in the trees
for the entire trip in New Hampshire. It seemed like most of
Vermont was yellow maple and yellow alder. The White Mountains
had a much higher percentage of the bright red maples to add
color to the mountainsides. We photographed the Mount Washington
Hotel
in front of snow-capped Mt. Washington. It would have been
nice to take the cog railroad to the top of Mt Washington, but
the wind and cold were a bit discouraging. We were also on a
tight schedule for the day.
We photographed a couple nice cascades around Crawford Notch and a couple areas of colorful trees, but we basically just drove straight through.
We got to our motel just before dark and had a chance to relax a bit.
