2009 New England Trip

Tuesday, October 13

Our normal weather pattern returned today as it rained or snowed all day. We stayed on the back roads as much as possible as we drove to Bar Harbor because it was still a beautiful drive. We couldn't photograph, but we could still enjoy the drive.

We arrived at our cottage about noon and unloaded the car. We have a 3 bedroom, 2 bath cabin that looks out on an inlet of the Atlantic. Even on an ugly, overcast day, it was very cool. We looked out to see shore birds feeding and a great blue heron standing on a rock. We started the fireplace, turned up the heat, and made lunch. With temperatures in the 30's, the heat felt mighty good.

Then it was time to check out the town of Bar Harbor. If we can't photograph, we might as well shop. Carol bought a gorgeous watermelon tourmaline pendant and a pair of earrings. I bought a t-shirt and a cap. That pretty much sums up our sense of style.

Then, it was off to the lobster restaurant. Carol had lobster (of course), and I had macadamia-crusted halibut. That was my mistake. I'm having lobster the rest of the time in Maine.
