Oregon 2011 Trip

Friday, June 17

It was back to work today after taking three days off. More importantly, today was the Rehearsal Dinner for Matt & Jackie's wedding.

Carol got up early and returned the Explorer to the Ford dealership so they could install the new window hinges on the back door. The old hinges were nearly stripped, so it's no wonder the whole back window could shift. The Explorer still runs great, but there are more and more things that are just wearing out.

Today was a good day at work. I not only got a lot done, but the day went quickly and all our software seemed to work.

The wedding party passed the rehearsal with flying colors at the Eden Valley Orchards, and then it was on to the Rehearsal Dinner at the Ashland Springs Hotel. Carol and her ex-husband hosted the rehearsal dinner. It was a beautiful evening, and the Ashland Springs Hotel was a wonderful venue. Like Ashland, it had the charm of a historical building coupled with an amazing remodeling.

Because it was a destination wedding for both families, the Rehearsal Dinner was for the members of both families that had arrived in advance of tomorrow's wedding. To say we were outnumbered would be an understatement. Matt's family and friends filled 1 1/2 tables, while Jackie's family filled five. Jackie's mom had 8 siblings and her dad had 3 siblings. It was a great pleasure to see the obvious joy Jackie's family experienced as they came together to celebrate Matt & Jackie's wedding. One of Jackie's brothers flew in from Singapore, and family members from 12 states joined us.

One of the stranger coincidences of the wedding was the number of anniversaries that were being celebrated this week. Carol and I celebrated our 15th on Tuesday. Jackie's parents were celebrating their 39th tonight. Two other couples in Jackie's family had celebrated their 40th anniversaries earlier in the week, and one more couple had celebrated their 17th anniversary. I know it's June and all, but that is a lot of major anniversaries in a week.

The food at the hotel was amazing and everyone had a great time. The Rehearsal Dinner is finished and tomorrow is the wedding.
