We moved south from Cannon Beach to the Chinook RV Park near Waldport today. The only problem is that I misread my own itinerary, and we weren't supposed to leave until tomorrow. We didn't realize my mistake until much later in the afternoon after we checked in to our next campground.
When we drove up to the RV park in Waldport, we almost drove by. There were crumby trailers parked along the side of the campground facing the road that were obviously people who were permanent residents of the campground. The rest of the campground was neat and clean, but definitely not up to our normal standards. We decided to stay tonight and then move tomorrow after checking out other possibilities.
After we got settled, we decided to check out the sights south of Waldport. Our first stop was Cape Perpetua, which has always been one of my favorite areas of the Oregon Coast. I like the rugged, rocky coast and the viewpoint from the top of the headland. The lighting was all wrong today, but we checked out the main viewpoints in the area.
Our final stop was the viewpoint for the Haceta Head Lighthouse. As if to make up for the poor light, a whale entertained us in the cove directly below the viewpoint. She was a bit of a "ham" as she continued to swim around the same area and spout the entire time we were at the viewpoint. Between the gulls and cormorants on the rocks, the sea lions out sunbathing, and the show-off whale, it was a pretty entertaining stop.

After we left Haceta Head, we drove in to Florence to familiarize ourselves with the area, but we didn't make any more major stops. Then, it was back home to Waldport before it got dark.
