San Francisco and the California Coast

Our spring trip takes us to the Bay Area to visit Brian and Michelle for a week before we toddle home along the Central California Coast. We wanted to take advantage of having Brian and Michelle's expertise on what to see in San Francisco before they move to Southern California later this year. As it turns out, we will barely leave San Francisco next week when Michelle will move to Los Angeles to start her new job at a Kaiser facility. Brian will remain in Walnut Creek until his transfer goes through. Hopefully, that will happen soon.

Today was the mad rush to get everything packed up and ready for the trip. A three-week trip is always a major undertaking, but this trip has an additional dimension of spending part of the time camping and part of the time in a motel while we tour San Francisco. Add to that the fact that we need dress clothes for half of the trip and our normal camping clothes for the other half, and we are definitely out of our comfort zone. We struggled to pack all the right combinations of clothes in the right suitcases, duffel bags, and clothes bags. It will be interesting to see how we did.

We left home shortly after noon today and sailed through Los Angeles without any major delays. We're spending our first night just north of Magic Mountain at the Valencia Travel Village. Carol's amazing Aunt Frieda passed away on Sunday, and her funeral is tomorrow. The cemetery is only about 20 minutes from the Valencia Travel Village campground. We'll go to the funeral tomorrow in the Explorer and then return to the campground and pick up the motorhome and continue north to Tulare in the late afternoon.
