Our New Home

Today was a short driving day to the Bay Area. We enjoyed our breakfast at the motel and then continued north on Highway 99. I still enjoy driving through the small towns lining 99, just as I did all those years driving to Yosemite. Many of the smaller towns like Selma have grown dramatically since those days in the 80's.

Although it rained on and off throughout the drive, we cruised right along with no delays. It wasn't until we passed all the wind turbines near Patterson Pass and dropped down into the valley near Livermore that we ran into our first traffic. We trudged along at 5 MPH for about 45 minutes before we finally passed the accident.

The GPS took us right to the motel. The only problem was that we couldn't see the motel. We saw the Best Buy and Office Depot, but no motel. It wasn't until we were nearly past the shopping area that we saw a sign that said "Extended Stay America." That meant driving a huge loop to work our way back to the shopping area. The second time, we saw the motel at the opposite end of the parking lot from the street. We unhooked the Explorer, parked the motorhome at the back of the motel parking lot, and moved into our room.

Considering our plans for Napa tomorrow and all the great food we're going to eat, we decided to settle in tonight and have chili in the room. After last night's "pig out" at KFC and looking forward to tomorrow's gourmet meals, we need to try to be good tonight.
