Marina Dunes

Windy, foggy, and cold pretty much summarized the early morning. Half Moon Bay is completely exposed to the northwestern wind. This morning there were small white caps scattered across the bay as we looked toward Pillar Point.

We packed up everything and vacated our campsite right after breakfast. We parked the motorhome in the state park day-use parking lot, so we could drive the Explorer to check out some nurseries we had seen along Highway 92. We had noticed them when we drove in to Half Moon Bay on Thursday, and they looked promising. The Half Moon Bay Nursery was nothing short of AMAZING. It was huge and had the biggest selection of plants and trees I've ever seen in a single nursery. They even had plants from Annie's Annuals, the location we had visited in Richmond earlier in the week. If Half Moon Bay Nursery was in San Diego, we would be spending a fortune on plants. As it was, we couldn't pass up some new plant varieties we hadn't seen before. Now, we have to baby them to get them home safely.

We returned to Half Moon Bay State Beach, ate lunch, and got everything hooked up for our journey to Marina Dunes RV Resort. I think the "Resort" in the name increased the price at least $10/night. They are halfway between Santa Cruz and Monterey and are basically the only "show in town." The campground is small, but the sites are surrounded by trees to cut the wind, and it seems well maintained. Still, $70 a night for a campsite seems a bit much.

We relaxed in camp this afternoon and decided not to make a dash to Santa Cruz or Monterey for sunset. We saved our energy for the big day exploring the coast tomorrow. We straightened up the motorhome, took showers, and watched "Frozen."
