On to Salt Lake City

Today was a travel day. We're taking a three-day break from all our crazy excursions and spending the weekend with Carol's nephew Shawn and his family in Salt Lake City. Shawn and his wife Grace have two daughters, Bella and Lilly.

It was a relatively easy 200 mile drive to Salt Lake City on a good highway. We stayed on Highway 40 most of the way as we followed river valleys eastward. As we turned north toward Interstate 80, we began crossing ridges that separated valleys and huge reservoirs. We stopped in Heber City and ate our lunch before passing Park City. The fun began when we made the turn west on Interstate 80. We immediately began our climb to Summit Park. It was a relatively steep climb for an Interstate, but it was the long descent that kept our attention. It was over 6% grade nearly all the way to our turnoff on Interstate 215. And just to make sure we were paying attention, the exit ramp had a 35 MPH speed limit because of the sharp turn.

Granny CottageWe had no problem finding Shawn and Grace's house and arrived about 2:30. Bella and Lilly (Shawn & Grace's daughters) had a vacation day, and Grace was already home from work. Shawn wrangled our motorhome into his back yard compound and got us situated in our "campsite" for the next three days. A huge cottonwood, a few pine, some aspen, several smaller trees, and a large grass area made it feel more like a campsite than a back yard. We have electricity, water, and all the comforts of home. We even have a beautiful view of the Wasatch Mountains out our front window. It's like a "granny flat" on wheels.

Carol hasn't seen Bella and Lilly since they were very small, so this is a special treat. The girls are amazing. They are best friends and sisters; a very rare situation. Bella is now in second grade and Lilly is in kindergarten.

We enjoyed family movie night and watched "Home." Neither Carol nor I had seen it yet, and we enjoyed it immensely. There was plenty of humor for the adults, as well as an entertaining kid's story.
