Happy Birthday, Michelle!

I'm sorry we aren't there to celebrate with you, but we've been thinking about you all day. We hope you had a great day. We know you're going to have an exciting year ahead.

Clouds and More Clouds

Today was the day to shoot moonset at sunrise. I got up twice before dawn in hopes that the clouds would lift so we could shoot moonset. The clouds had other ideas and stretched across the sky the entire day. The light was absolutely flat all day.

The only good thing about the terrible lighting was it gave me time to catch up on these travelogues. For the first time in a couple of weeks, I'm all caught up again.

In the late afternoon, we drove to Arches to see if the Delicate Arch Road had re-opened. It's been closed for over a week due to construction and flooding. We stopped at the Visitor Center, and the ranger said it may open tomorrow. We had hoped to photograph the Wolf Ranch petroglyphs while we had the even light and nothing better to do.

Since Wolf Ranch was out, we decided to scout a formation I saw from Balanced Rock a couple of days ago. I wanted to find a hill or ridge where I could shoot slightly down on the formation with the La Sal Mountains in the background. We found a couple of very good places to photograph North Window, South Window, and Turret Arch, but we had no luck in finding a hill or ridge that aligned with the formation and the La Sal Mountains.

We ended the day with an excellent dinner at Susie's Branding Iron restaurant. Except for the HBO crew guys and us, it seemed like most of the customers were locals.
