2016 June Lake Trip

Friday, February 26

We missed our BBQ at Copper Top in Big Pine on Monday, but we weren't missing it today. We timed our drive south to Lone Pine to ensure we would be at Copper Top in time for lunch. We weren't disappointed. There's a reason they were rated the #1 restaurant in the nation in 2014 by Yelp. We have stopped here for BBQ on every trip since 2014. I don't see that changing any time soon.

We checked in at "our" Best Western in Lone Pine before driving up into the Alabama Hills west of town. We hiked around one of our favorite areas near Boot Arch and Double Arch, but the skies were overcast and there was no hope for a sunset. We enjoyed the walk and took a few images before returning to town for dinner at Seasons. A white-table-cloth restaurant in a tiny town like Lone Pine seems a bit unusual, but we've never been disappointed with the food here. Tonight was no exception.

With the overcast skies tonight, it's doubtful that there will be a sunrise worthy of getting up early tomorrow. We'll likely sleep in a bit longer and get an earlier start for home.
