2016 June Lake Trip

Saturday, February 27

When I peeked out to check the sky for sunrise, clouds filled the sky and there was no point in getting up. I went back to bed. We managed to get up in time for breakfast at the motel and said our good-byes to Don and Pat. We got an early start for home while Don wanted to do a little more shooting in the Alabama Hills. We had spent 2 1/2 weeks in the Alabama Hills last year with good lighting almost the entire time, so we weren't as interested in shooting today.

Photographically, our trip was a major disappointment. It's hard to get good snow pictures when there is almost no snow, and the temperatures are warm enough to require only a light jacket or fleece. The weather was warm and clear, which is good for playing tourist or hanging out. It isn't good for photography.

Sharing the week with Don and Pat made up for the poor photography. We used to shoot with Don and Pat a lot when we were all active in the Sierra Club Photo Section. We still see them regularly for dinners or to share trip photos, but we haven't spent as much time photographing with them over the last few years.
