Into the Valley of Heat

It's 6:30 p.m. and we're sitting in the motorhome hiding from the heat. We dropped off the plateau almost immediately after we left Fort Bridger this morning and spent the day driving through the basin and range topography of eastern and central Utah. By the time we dropped down into Salt Lake City, it was over 90 degrees and we were back in red rock country.

Driving south from Salt Lake City, the valleys that were lush green when we drove north six weeks ago are turning brown, and the roadside grasses are already dying. It was nice to be on familiar roads as we drove south on I-15, but it was hot. We stopped in Scipio to fuel up and eat lunch. It just happened to have a Dairy Queen, so we enjoyed our dessert before we finished the final stretch of today's drive.

When we got everything set up at the Beaver KOA, it was 91 degrees in the motorhome. With both air conditioners running, it's comfortable inside, but it's going to be VERY hot the rest of the trip.
