2019 Oregon Trip

Sunday, June 2

We set a new record for latest start of a trip. We're usually very good about getting an early start on trip preparations, so we don't have to do a bunch of stuff at the last minute. This year, we did a very poor job, and we had a very long list of things to do for the yard at the last minute. We wore ourselves out past exhaustion on Friday and Saturday, and we were still packing our gear this morning. That is NOT the way to start a trip.

We finally left home at 11:30 for our six-hour drive to the Best Western in Tulare. Once we got on the road, it was a very easy drive through Los Angeles, over the Grapevine, and up the Central Valley to Tulare. Staying at the Best Western has become a tradition for our trips where we travel north on I-5. It allows us to get a later start knowing we don't have to set up our motorhome in a campground, and there's a KFC right down the street from the motel for our traditional, first-night dinner. The Best Western also has one of the best breakfast buffets, so we get a good breakfast and an early start for the second travel day.
