Detroit Lake State Park

Checkout time wasn't until 1:00 at Silver Falls, and we couldn't check in to our next campground until 4:00, so we had a very leisurely morning. We slept in, did a little clean-up, and mostly relaxed. Our final act in Silver Falls was a return to the South Falls Lodge for ice cream. Today was the second day of the summer season,--and the second day that our two ice creams went from $1.75 to $4.00 each.

We moved to Detroit Lake State Recreation area today, which is even more in the boonies than Silver Falls. We made a slight detour to hit Stayton (which was just big enough to have a Safeway store) to buy provisions before driving the 39 miles to Detroit Lake. We normally don't have such short drives, but we liked Detroit Lake when we were there last time in 2011. At that time, I was still working and my "office" overlooked the lake with Mt. Jefferson in the distance. I even had a family of ducks and a family of geese to entertain me while I worked.

It was brutally hot when we reached our campsite, which was a major concern because our site only had 20-amp electrical service. That meant no air conditioning and no microwave use. We pulled out our camp chairs and sat looking out across the lake as we waited for it to cool down. By 8:00, it was comfortable, and we grilled chicken for dinner. Just before sunset, the clouds started rolling in, so we're hoping it will be cooler tomorrow.
