Tulare to Redding
After our breakfast at the Best Western, we spent the rest of the day driving up the Central Valley of California. Over the 40 years that I've been driving Highway 99 to Yosemite and points north, I've watched it gradually change from a cotton-based agriculture to orchards, and now to an increasing number of vineyards. Tiny little towns have grown into towns with Walmart, Home Depot, Hampton Inns, and Carmax. Madam Sofia's Palm Reading in Fowler remains one of the original businesses I remember from my first trip up Highway 99.
Today was our longest day driving for the trip, but it went smoothly. We tried a new campground in Redding since our old favorite Durango RV Resort in Red Bluff was sold. Premiere RV in Redding turned out to be an excellent choice. We even made it before it started raining. The campground is tucked into a small wooded valley, which gives it a homey feeling, and the grounds looked like a park.
We're looking forward to tomorrow and a change of scenery as we cross the mountains of northern California and southern Oregon.
