Waterfalls
We joined Matt, Kira, and Jayden this morning for a trip to George Rogers Park, which is right along the Willamette River in Lake Oswego. This is a high-end community, and it was reflected in the types and variety of play equipment for kids. It was impressive. We walked down to the river to see the ducks and throw rocks in the Willamette before returning to Matt's.
Today was the beginning of our trips to the waterfalls along the Columbia River Gorge. Because of traffic congestion in the Columbia River Gorge, the U. S. Forest Service has implemented a timed-entry permit system. We made our reservations a couple of weeks ago for a 3:00 p. m. entry. We arrived a little after 3:00 and drove to Bridal Veil Falls for one of our favorite waterfalls from our last trip here. It was a 1-mile hike on an easy trail to a viewpoint across from the falls. The streams are running high this year because they've had a later spring.
From Bridal Veil Falls, we drove to Horsetail Falls at the opposite end of the Columbia River Gorge. It's right next to the road, but staying dry from the mist created by the waterfall and breeze was a challenge. This is one of my favorites because of its proximity to the trail and it's straight drop over the basaltic cliff. It's a great late afternoon shot.
It was still light enough to check out waterfalls on the western end of the gorge, so we turned around and drove to Latourell Falls. This is a beautiful waterfall, but the overcast sky took the life out of the scene.
