Cape Kiwanda

It was mostly sunny this morning, and it looked like a promising day to shoot Cape Kiwanda. This is one of my favorite areas, so I was looking forward to a good day of shooting. We arrived at Cape Kiwanda in the early evening so we could shoot the sunset. We got there a couple of hours before sunset to check the conditions and decide where we wanted to shoot. But when we got there, the sunlight was very subdued. High, very thin clouds filtered all the sunlight. The light never warmed up to light the sandstone formations. In summary, it was a dud.

Carol shot around the arc of the bay near the parking area, and I climbed the sand dune to shoot the formations above with the beach with my cell phone. It was a day that looked promising but never materialized.

Neskowin Sunset

On our way back to camp, we stopped at Proposal Rock on the Neskowin Beach (near where we went to the Farmer's Market on Saturday). It was nearly sunset, so we walked out to the beach to see if we could shoot anything interesting. The sun set all the way to the horizon, so that was a nice change. But the sky was cloudless, and the sunset was mostly a dud.

But then something interesting happened as we walked back to the car. Just before the parking lot, we walked along a stream right next to the resort. The lights from the restaurant were reflected in the stream and this beautiful, tranquil scene was right in front of us. There were three of us walking on the trail, and we all stopped to check out the scene as a potential photo. Carol and I walked back to the car to get our tripods because the light was so low, but it was worth the walk. This turned out to be my only good shot of the day.
