Haceta Head Lighthouse

We missed Haceta Head Lighthouse when we were in Cape Perpetua on Sunday, so we drove south from Lincoln City for our final day in the area. It was very overcast in Lincoln City, but by the time we reached Depoe Bay, it was sunny with thin, high clouds that filtered the sun. It wasn't real promising, but it was our last day.

We passed Seal Rocks, Cape Perpetua, etc., before reaching Haceta Head where the clouds completely filled the sky. We checked out the tidepools at the base of the cliffs below the lighthouse for sea critters. Oregon is famous for its tidepools, but these tidepools were nothing compared to the tide pools in San Diego. We saw three Pisaster starfish and a few Anthopleura sea anemones and that was about it except for Mytilus and Balanus encrusting the rocks. We returned to the highway and drove up to the turnout where everyone gets their shot of the lighthouse. With the overcast skies, it was pretty disappointing, but we have lots of good images from previous trips.

The lighthouse keepers home is now a very nice bed and breakfast. It's a bit out of our price range, but I'm sure it has amazing views.
