Coastal Fog
The weather forecast for today was cloudy all day with winds increasing about 2:00. We decided to sleep in and take today off. Tomorrow is our hike to Sweet Creek Falls, so a day off was in order. When I got up at 8:30 and looked out the window, the campground was shrouded in fog. Ordinarily, that might support taking the day off, but Carol wanted to photograph Charleston Harbor in the fog. We grabbed something to take along to eat and started our quest for fog pictures. The areas along the Cape Arago park road were so fogged in, they had no subjects at all. Our next try at Sunset Bay was no better. We finally drove to Charleston Harbor where there was lots of fog on the point above the harbor but not around the fishing boats in the harbor. We went from too much fog around camp to not enough fog at the harbor.
We returned to camp and resumed our plan of taking the rest of the day off and going out to dinner at Fisherman's Grotto. We had good food there in 2019, so we were looking forward to our dinner. Since it was a hot date, I got all cleaned up, and Carol gave me a haircut. I even wore my new white tennis shoes to dinner. It was truly formal dining. The food was as good as we remembered, and we made sure to order enough for leftovers. After dinner, we drove around and re-checked our potential fog shots, but nothing really worked. And it was getting COLD! It was cool enough that we had to run the heater briefly after we got back to the motorhome.
One of the challenges of camping at Sunset Bay State Park is that there is no cell service or Internet service. We can get cell service at the end of the road by Drake Point, but that's three miles away. So tonight at dinner, we tried to get caught up on a few things after we ate. We checked out the forecast for our remaining two state parks and our campgrounds on the way home. We've had cool, damp weather nearly the entire trip and have rarely been without a fleece when we're out shooting. It looks like the weather will hold to that pattern while we're in Oregon. But when we looked at Redding (our first campground in California), it said that it had gotten up to 110 degrees last week and will be over 100 for the next week. That's a blast furnace! It's a good thing we have two air conditioners in the motorhome. The shock of the cool weather turning into such heat doesn't sound good.
