Bandon Beach

It was a good day of shooting today. After the clouds burned off about 10:00, we drove down to Bandon Beach and shot around the rock formations on the beach. It was only about an hour after low tide, so it was easy to walk around and among the formations. The lighting was fairly flat since it was mid-morning, but we enjoyed the warmer weather and the relaxed pace of the morning.

Our next stop was the Coquille River Lighthouse. We found a good spot across the river from the lighthouse and used the fishing boats and the river as the foreground. We continued down the road until we reached South Jetty Park where the breakwater stretches out to the sea. Even as the tide was decreasing, the waves hitting the beach were impressive. That would be a great place to photograph the huge waves in a storm.

There was a tiny memorial for a young woman who was photographing on the beach. She was hit my a 30 foot rogue wave and killed. It's was a good reminder not to get too complacent.

We returned to camp for lunch, relaxed for the afternoon, and then had dinner.

We returned to Bandon Beach for sunset, but there was no sunset. The fog began to creep into the formations long before sunset. We had high hopes of at least getting some interesting fog around the formations. We photographed for about 20 minutes when the fog totally engulfed us and "shut out the lights." The only good thing was that we got back to camp before 10:00.
