We enjoyed our buffet breakfast at the Best Western and were driving south on I-5 by 9:00. We bought fuel for the motorhome yesterday afternoon, so we won't need to make any stops on the way home--except at Panda Inn. Panda Inn was our favorite Chinese food restaurant in San Diego, but it closed about 3 years ago. Now, we try to time the last day of our trips to Central or Northern California to include lunch at the Panda Inn in Ontario. We reached the restaurant just as the lunch crowd was leaving, so our service was excellent, and we didn't have long to wait for our food. The food was delicious, and we have enough leftovers for two more meals at home.
We hit San Diego just in time for the evening traffic jams, but it still wasn't as bad as Seattle or Portland. We parked the motorhome at the top of our hill at exactly 5:00. We drove our first load of stuff from the motorhome to the house and were shocked to see that our landscape crew evidently skipped us for the entire time we were gone. Our yard was one giant weed patch. It was a culmination fitting this year's trip. We just couldn't seem to catch a break.
Epilogue
This year's trip definitely wins the prize for best food. Every meal in Sellwood (where Matt & Jackie live) and the surrounding communities was unique in its own way. We had French, Italian, wood-fired pizza, and American. They were all great.
