2015 New Mexico & Utah Trip

Argh!

Carol's day started extra early today. Lilly asked her if she would wait with them for the school bus. Carol couldn't resist and got up before 8:00 to see the girls, and then wait with them out in front of the house for the bus. We all know, Carol does NOT get up before 8:00 unless it is something special.

We added another day to our planned stay in Salt Lake City, so we would have the weekend to spend with Shawn and family without having to worry about buying food and getting ready for the rest of the trip. Today was "run errand day." We still have 4 weeks left of the trip, so we needed to create a menu for the second half, buy food, and get everything cleaned up. In the midst of our morning errands, we even managed to hit a Supercuts and get haircuts. Make that VERY short haircuts.

Our final stop of the morning was Costco. We had already been to this Costco 9 years ago when we picked up the motorhome in Salt Lake City. The store was laid out exactly like the Costco in San Juan Capistrano, so we knew pretty well where everything was.

When we got back to Shawn's, we parked the Explorer in the compound, unloaded all the food, and put everything away. And then we saw the water leak... Our kitchen faucet was leaking into the compartment below. It was a very slow leak, but it clearly had the potential for a disaster. Last November, a leak from our ice maker at home did over $13,000 of damage to our kitchen. We didn't want a repeat of that kind of situation on a trip. Carol and I drove over to the Home Depot we saw earlier in the morning and bought a new faucet. Shawn figured out how to make some adjustments so it would fit and got everything back together. By that time, it was too late to buy groceries and finish getting ready to leave tomorrow. The good news was it gave us a good part of the afternoon to enjoy Lilly. She has a half-day kindergarten, so she enjoyed hanging out with Carol for the afternoon. She is too cute!

We won't be leaving tomorrow, but we're not too heart-broken. We are enjoying the time with Shawn and his family, We don't get to see them very often. It has been one of the highlights of the trip.
