2016 Morro Bay Trip

Thursday, June 16

Thursday

Today was a great day. It started with a hike to the top of Black Hill for a 360-degree view of Morro Bay. The weather was clear and bright; something that is unusual along the coast in June. It was a perfect morning to be out hiking.

But the day got better from there. We had lunch at Firestone Grill in San Luis Obispo. Brian's wife Michelle told us about this place, and we've been going back ever since. Michelle went to college at Cal State San Luis Obispo, so she knows this area well. They have the best tri-tip sandwiches anywhere. That's "lots of good food" #3.

Otter watching filled the remainder of the day. We had no problem filling our memory cards today. The lighting was good, and the sea otters were active and playful. We found a mother and her pup and enjoyed watching her groom and care for it. The pup let everyone know when it floated even a few inches away from mom. Mom would pull the pup back, roll over to put the pup on her belly, and love it up as they floated in the kelp. They are extremely affectionate mothers and fascinating to watch.
